Writer, editor, political activist and mother of two wonderful daughters, Jamaican born Makeda Silvera is a visionary who has revolutionized Canadian literature. In 1985, she and partner Stephanie Martin co-founded Sister Vision Press, the first and currently the only press in North America dedicated to publishing writing by and for women of colour. Makeda has written three books, Silenced: Conversations with Domestic Workers in Canada, Her Head a Village and Other Stories, and Remembering G and Other Stories. Her editorial work has included Piece of My Heart: A Lesbian of Colour Anthology, Pearls of Passion: A Treasury of Lesbian Erotica and more recently Ma-ka, Diasporic Juks: Contemporary Writing by Queers of African Descent.
