RYERSON POLYTECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

TORONTO, Nov. 26 - Ryerson Polytechnic University President Claude Lajeunesse has announced the suspension of part-time instructor, Gerald Hannon pending an investigation into recent media statements related to his alleged conduct and activities.

"We will be investigating whether his alleged conduct is unbefitting his status as a member of the teaching community of Ryerson," said Dr. Lajeunesse.

"Because Mr. Hannon is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Ryerson and CUPE, we are required to follow a prescribed process before making a decision on this matter," said Lajeunesse.

The investigation will be conducted by Vice President of Faculty and Staff Affairs, Dr. Michael Dewson.

"While under suspension, Mr. Hannon is to have no contact with his students and will not be permitted on campus without my authorization or that of the Dean of Applied Arts," said Dr. Dewson.

Mr. Hannon is also required to provide to the Chair of the School of Journalism, Professor John Miller all classroom materials, student evaluations and related materials.

"Appropriate arrangements will be made to ensure Mr. Hannon's students receive their grades for the semester," said Dewson.
