HANNON REPLIES (letter)
Judy Steed is following my career so closely I can't help but think she
wants to be a disciple (letter - Nov. 18). If so, I do wish she would pay
somewhat closer attention to the sacred texts. Men Loving Boys Loving Men,
an article I wrote in 1977, does not "praise elementary school teachers
who have sex with boys in their class." The article does interview one
such teacher, and lets him speak at length on a number of topics,
including the relationships (a word I'd like to stress) he forms with
boys, some of whom he teaches.
I support the existence of the North American Man/Boy Love Association,
the way I would support any organization that uses legal methods to change
laws and attitudes. "Sex before eight or it's too late" is not, however,
the motto of NAMBLA. It is the motto of the Rene Guyon Society, and it is
one with which I thoroughly disagree.
I understand why Ms. Steed may have confused the issue, however. As
Oscar Wilde noted a century ago, every great man has his disciples, and it
is usually Judas who writes the biography.
